Revolutionary data room –
Solution for the healthcare sector

Our vision

One data space for health

Our vision is to create an innovative, collaborative data space for the healthcare sector that preserves the data sovereignty of all parties involved and thus builds trust, increases efficiency and generates added value for everyone involved. This data room will be at the heart of lively networking and trusting cooperation between all areas of the healthcare system. Our overarching goal is to use this data room to improve healthcare at all levels. Through jointly developed, overarching use cases, we want to bundle data sharing under one roof and facilitate and optimize the exchange, analysis and evaluation of data with other public and scientific data sources. With our collaborative data room, we are creating an accepted framework in which the flow of data between companies and all stakeholders in the healthcare system is increased. This innovative environment will enable us to implement the digital transformation for the healthcare sector and establish new business models in the process.

Our mission

sphin-X and Gaia-X on a joint mission

Gaia-X stands for security and trust in the digital space: Europe-wide guidelines are intended to regulate the secure, trustworthy and interoperable handling of data systems. sphin-X establishes these principles in the healthcare sector.

European standards for data sovereignty

Cashless payment is a matter of course these days. However, digital business models come with both enormous potential and challenges. A data leak can cause considerable damage not only to the affected company, but also to the data owners. For this reason, data protection regulations are strict, but the relationships between software, server and cloud are often opaque.

The international association Gaia-X has set itself the goal of making digital interaction secure, simple and comprehensible. Around 350 companies are developing European data standards. One of the common goals: Data sovereignty.

Data sovereignty means that every user remains the owner of the data they provide. Gaia-X neither provides storage space nor archives data. Instead, the association mediates between users and providers by providing protected data corridors. In these corridors, each user decides for himself when and with whom information is shared.

This means immense time and cost savings for users: defined processes reduce the complexity of familiarization with different data systems and enable new, competitive collaboration.
Gaia-X provides the basis for the entire data system, including architecture, open source software and certifications:

  • The architecture shows which functions, modes of operation and roles are necessary to unite different technologies and organizations (= interoperability).
  • Open source means that a software does not have any specific requirements and can be used by any company according to its needs. This is particularly important for local, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which may not have the knowledge and infrastructure to be active online.
  • Gaia-X also tests and certifies processes, software and tools to ensure that they comply with Europe-wide legal requirements. This means that Gaia-X not only stands for compliance and data protection, but also for legal conformity throughout Europe.

A more topic-specific elaboration takes place in the so-called hubs. At national level, technical experts from specific industries cooperate to ensure that their individual requirements are incorporated into the global development process. sphin-X implements Gaia-X in the healthcare sector.

sphin-X: Who we are

An industry initiative for all players in the healthcare sector

We are sphin-X (“Secure platform for health information eXchange“), an initiative of a large number of players from the healthcare sector. With sphin-X, we want to provide a secure platform for the exchange of health information. For us, “secure” does not only mean technically secure data exchange, but also trusting cooperation between healthcare stakeholders and patients.

In order to realize our vision of an innovative, collaborative and data protection-compliant data room for the healthcare sector, we are trying to get as many partners as possible interested in sphin-X and have already motivated various stakeholders to join in.

Our partners accompany us in three categories:

The drivers form the core of sphin-X. Contributors in this category are willing to become members of the association that is to be founded as the nucleus for sphin-X and strategically steers sphin-X. They contribute financial resources, human resources and material support.

The supporters support sphin-X. This group of partners forms a closer circle of interested parties of sphin-X, who support the association and may pursue membership. They also take part in sphin-X to collaboratively implement specific use cases.

sphin-X is supplemented by the interested parties. They will be informed about the further procedure of sphin-X and have the opportunity to join the organization at a later date. We will keep them up to date regarding our activities and look forward to welcoming their contributions and involvement in the future.

Our values and principles

Trust in our shared vision

Orientation towards public interest

All stakeholders are involved in improving healthcare in the sense of a solidarity-based, networked and learning healthcare system.

Trustworthiness as a basic requirement

The technical architecture, governance and set of rules are the basis for trust in sphin-X and the entirety of the solutions. All applications located in the sphin-X data room meet the highest standards of security, data protection and ethical handling of health data.

Dialogue as a central building block

We want to support and complement existing public and private infrastructures and projects in a constructive dialog in order to enable new successes through connectivity.

Data sovereignty by design

The data providers retain the right to use the data; data protection is guaranteed at all times. The aim is not to create large data pools, but to combine data in a targeted manner for beneficial use. For example, driving forward federated systems.

Our values and principles

Collaboration, transparency & neutrality

Cooperation at eye level

All partners have the same opportunity to contribute their applications and project ideas to the sphin-X data room in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations. Access to the data ecosystem is non-discriminatory for all participants.

Openness and completeness

Public and complete documentation of all available applications, the players involved and interfaces ensures transparency at all times.

Our values and principles

Realizing innovations & new business models

Sustainable business models promote innovation

The sphin-X data room lays the foundations for a new market and innovative, fair and sustainable business models. Data from different areas of the healthcare value chain should finally be able to be used across the board.

Increase data quality

In the medium term, sphin-X will create a transparent marketplace that offers an incentive to provide data of a higher quality and to link it innovatively without the data holders having to hand over their data.

Our values and principles

Technology follows function

Recognized standards to ensure interoperability

We choose open and internationally compatible (industry) standards with documented interfaces and data/transaction models. This makes data sharing as easy as possible and enables linking with data rooms in other sectors.

Use technology in the sense of the project

An open system architecture, following the principles of data sovereignty and interoperability, underlines our intention.
